WATS 3D Endoscopy
WATS 3D is an upper endoscopic procedure that allows collection of a better tissue sample from the esophagus than conventional endoscopy. A special brush targets a broader area and only samples the esophageal layer where cancer cells develop.
A computer imaging system then allows the pathologist to virtually see the complete sample by combining more than 100 optical samples to create one 3D image. As a result, this procedure has been proven to significantly increase the detection of pre-cancer in the esophagus.
A WATS 3D adds no more than five extra minutes to a standard endoscopy, with results generally delivered about four to five days after the sample is received.
